In 2013, ISRO had seen success with its launch of INSAT-3D, a satellite aided search and rescue satellite, from French Guiana in 2013.

Adding to one of ISRO's biggest successful launches, was the launch of 20 satellites, including its earth observation Cartosat-2 series, in a single mission on board its workhorse PSLV-C34 from the spaceport of Sriharikota last month.

Recently, ISRO Chairman AS Kiran Kumar had revealed the space organisation's aim to increase the number of rocket launches from the current eight to twelve to eighteen per year.
