Having successfully conducted mass marriages for those from the weaker sections of the society, the state government will now hold a mass vow renewal ceremony for 108 couples aged between 60-80 years.

This way the Jayalalithaa government aims to help poor people in carrying out age old customs like Shastipurthi – where couples renew marriage vows when the husband attains 60 years of age.

A report in The News Minute add that the couples will get a silk saree, shirt, dhoti, pooja items for the ceremony. Other household materials like pillows, bedsheets and buckets will also be provided to the senior citizens

The event is scheduled to be held at Parthasarathy temple grounds in Thiruvallikenni district, however, the venue may shift to Chennai if Jayalalithaa decides to grace the occasion, the report adds.
