Chennai: J Jayalalithaa, who passed away in Chennai last night, a day after she suffered a massive cardiac arrest, had dominated politics in Tamil Nadu for over three decades.

While she stepped on to become a raging politician in the state of Tamil Nadu, she earned herself several titles by her supporters.


After the demise of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founder and her mentor MG Ramachandran in 1987, Jayalalithaa headed one faction and later the united AIADMK and eared the title 'Puratchi Thalaivi' by her partymen, which means a 'revolutionary leader'. 


Years later, her supporters brought other titles for her ranging from 'Mother Teresa' to 'The Iron Lady' and 'Thanga Tharagai', meaning the 'golden lady'. 


Among other titles that she earned during her regime , she was largely referred as 'Amma' in political circles.
