Chennai: Claiming victory as trends gave her party a clear majority in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday termed the people's verdict as historic as against the "family rule" of DMK.

But Chennai, battered by floods in December, dumped the AIADMK. Its candidates trailed in 12 of the 16 constituencies.
