The reason behind the clash was a graveyard land, over which both the communities have been claiming ownership for the last three decades.

“The situation is under control as of now, some people tried to take advantage of the situation to create unrest, they have been identified, will be arrested soon. We will take strict action against them. Force has been deployed at the site. Talks are going with the two groups so that the situation does not escalate any further than this” The New Indian Express has quoted Kiran S, Senior Superintendent of Police Gautam Budh Nagar, as saying.

A curfew-like situation prevailed after people belonging to different communities got engaged in brick-batting and cross-firing for around two hours. Police had to resort to lathi charge to control the situation.

In a bid to avert any such incident, the district administration has decided to impose Section 144.
