The girl was hospitalised in Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi on Monday in a critical condition with burns on 95 percent of her body. As per the reports, she was raped, beaten and set alight on the rooftop terrace of her family's home by her boyfriend in Tigri village in Greater Noida on Sunday.

One Ajay Sharma, 18, who lives in the same village, has been arrested in the connection. A police official told Hindustan Times that girl in her statement had accused Sharma of rape and attempt to murder, before breathing her last.

According to police, the girl's father, who runs a tailor shop, found her covered in burn after hearing her screaming from rooftop terrace on Sunday afternoon. He further claimed that they had filed a complaint against the accused Ajay Sharma 10 months ago of repeatedly harassing their daughter. However, they withdrew their complaint after receiving an assurance from Sharma's family on the matter.
