According to a ToI report, the incident took place on Monday when the bus driver was taking a short nap, the animal got inside, switched on the engine and set off, though not too far.

Since the bus was due to leave in half an hour, the conductor was also away to find more passengers, it was then that the animal got inside it.

The driver, however, managed to regain control of it but by then the vehicle had crashed into two other buses parked nearby.

The monkey fled after the driver woke up and chased it away.

Panic-stricken passengers also dispersed quickly to save themselves although they were not aware as to what had happened.

UPSRTC regional manager SK Sharma later said the monkey menace is a real threat in the area.

The animals regularly cause disturbances at state bus stops and workshops, and UPSRTC has reportedly asked municipal authorities to hire an agency to fix the problem.
