Border Security Force and Provincial Armed Constabulary staged the flag march to instill confidence among the people, even as no untoward incident was reported since yesterday after the clash, SP Kalanidhi Naithani said.

Prohibitory orders were imposed following tension here over Thursday's clash at the Lakhan tri-section after some people allegedly opened fire and hurled brickbats at a procession for the immersion of Durga idols.

The curfew was lifted yesterday itself as the situation was brought under control, but the prohibitory orders were still in force to keep the unruly elements under check, Naithani said.

The named accused in the firing incident, Akram has been arrested and hunt was on for the others, the SP said.

The former city president of BJP, Vikram Tripathi, has been arrested with a countrymade weapon and a case has also been lodged against the member of BJP working committee Subrat Pathak, the SP said.

District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Jha said that barring stray incidents, there was total peace in the town. The markets, however, remained closed today.

One of the two youths, aged 30, who was injured in the violence succumbed at a hospital.
