Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president Dayashankar Singh's wife Swati Singh was appointed as the president of UP BJP women's wing on Friday.
Swati Singh's appointment is expected to raise the political heat in the state.
Earlier this year, Dayashankar Singh was expelled by the BJP for derogatory remarks against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati.
The expelled BJP leader had said: "Mayawati gives tickets for Rs one crore and if there is someone who can give Rs 2 crore than she sells it for Rs 2 crore within an hour. If someone is ready to give Rs 3 crore by the evening, she gives the ticket to him. She is even worse than...," Singh had said.
Following huge criticism from all quarters, the BJP had then sacked him from all party posts.
Later, Singh had the BSP chief is a greedy woman and is like a dog that chases a motorcycle, but steps back when the two-wheeler stops.
The former BJP MLA was arrested on July 29 from Bihar's Buxar town after remaining absconding for about 10 days.
He had called the ex-UP chief minister deceitful. Singh had claimed that Mayawati's close relatives and senior party leader Satish Chandra made huge money through dubious deals.
The BSP had lodged an FIR against Singh for comparing its party supremo Mayawati to a 'prostitute.' His comments led to a furore in the Parliament, forcing the BJP to remove him as the party's UP vice president.
