"A petrol pump which is to be set up in police lines will be named after police horse Shaktiman," SP Dehradun Sadanand said.

"This will be a great tribute to Shaktiman. Everyone in force had a special attachment with him, we're all happy," he added, as per ANI.

On the other hand, Uttarakhand DGP BS Sidhu said, "The way 'Chetak' is remembered in Indian history, we in police department remember Shaktimaan."

Shaktiman had suffered multiple fractures on its hind leg during a BJP protest and was suffering from medical-related complications.

Shaktiman's story stirred many across the country after it was seen in television visuals taking multiple blows and dragging its broken, mangled limb in excruciating pain during the protest on March 14.

The 13-year-old didn't respond well to a prosthetic leg brought from the US, doctors had said, as per PTI.

It spent the past few weeks at the police lines in Dehradun.

It was a well trained horse and part of Uttarakhand Mounted Police for years. It had participated in several parades.

BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi is accused of instigating the brutal attack on the horse.

The lawmaker was arrested and later let off on bail.
