West Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury on Wednesday demanded removal of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sunil Gupta and Deputy Chief Election Commissioner Sandip Saxena for their alleged failure to conduct free and fair polls in the state.
Kolkata: West Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury on Wednesday demanded removal of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sunil Gupta and Deputy Chief Election Commissioner Sandip Saxena for their alleged failure to conduct free and fair polls in the state.
"On April 11, we have seen how television channels have shown that booths were looted and captured by the cadres of the ruling party. The voting process was hampered and people couldn't exercise their democratic right properly," Chowdhury said in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner S Nasim Zaidi.
Despite the fact that there were pictorial evidences both in print and electronic media, he said, the CEO West Bengal refused to take action and was acting at the behest of the ruling party.
"He is working on instruction of the ruling party," he alleged.
"We demand immediate removal of Dy CEC Sandip Saxena and Gupta as they had failed to ensure free and fair polls," Chowdhury said.
