BJP and Congress had recently moved the EC seeking removal of Kumar alleging that he is close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and accused him of "snooping" on opposition leaders, bureaucrats and journalists.

Responding to questions by reporters, Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena said the issue is "under consideration" and it will be conveyed to the media by the Commission "at an appropriate time."

Kumar was appointed as Kolkata Police Commissioner in January.

BJP had accused Kumar of carrying out a "failed" sting against one of their leaders.
