A preliminary report from the US Geological Survey says the 4.5 magnitude quake struck at 9:11 pm yesterday at a depth of about eight kilometers. It was located about 64 kilometers southwest of Eureka and about 400 kilometers northwest of San Francisco.

The National Tsunami Warning Center says there is no danger of tidal problems and officials in Humboldt County say there are no reports of damages or injuries. Dozens of people reported to the USGS they had felt some light shaking.

It was in the same offshore area as a magnitude-4.9 quake on Monday and several smaller ones that followed this week.
