Istanbul: Turkish authorities on Sunday identified the central Istanbul suicide bomber as a member of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.

Interior Minister Efkan Ala said the attacker, Mehmet Ozturk, was an IS member born in the province of Gaziantep in 1992, Xinhua reported.

Five people have been detained over the deadly attack in Istanbul's Istiklal Street on Saturday in which five people were killed and 36 others injured.
 


Four of the killed were foreigners including an Israeli, two Israeli-Americans and an Iranian. Among the 36 injured, 13 were foreigners.

Ozturk's father and brother were also detained in Gaziantep, CNNTurk said.
