The commission, after reviewing the suggestions of the election-related central coordination committee over the possible consequences if the election is put off, insisted that the election be held as scheduled on November 8, Xinhua news agency reported.

Speculations arose that the election schedule may be postponed following a coordination meeting between the commission and seven political parties earlier on Tuesday.

Commission Chairman U Tin Aye proposed putting off the planned election for fears that the election might be disrupted by the current flooding and landslides in some regions as well as the security situation in the country.

Election campaign by political parties and independents has been in full swing since it started on September 8 and will end on November 6, two days prior to the polling.
