United Nations: At least 7.6 million people were forced to become refugees in 2012 reportedly highest since 1994.
Syria crisis played an important role in increasing the refugee numbers, a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) report said, as per a BBC report.
The report said that the 81 per cent of the refuges are now in the developed nation. Over half of the refugee population is driven from strife-torn countries of Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Sudan and Syria, the news report stated.
The figure does not include the number of Syrian refugees that have fled the country in the past six months, the report said. With 7.6 million refugees, a person is displaced around every 4 seconds, UNHCR chief Antonio Guterres reportedly said.
