Geneva: Pakistan has asked UN Human Rights Council that its mechanisms should respond to human rights violations and the loss of precious lives due to drone strikes on its territory, it was officially announced on Thursday.

In a meeting of the UN Human Rights council in Geneva, Pakistan's permanent representative Tehmina Janjua stressed that the council and its mechanisms should respond to human rights violations on the Pakistani territory which is in violation of its sovereignty, a foreign ministry statement read.

She emphasized that the drone strikes were also a violation of UN Charter, international law including human rights and humanitarian law.

Pakistan has repeatedly stressed that use of armed drones or remotely piloted aircrafts is a breach of human rights, in particulars, the right to life.
