The revelation came after the police minutely studied an IS video on the Dhaka cafe attack in which the accused allegedly provided the background voice.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday said that the narrator of the Islamic State video is Tahmid Rahman Safi, son of former Election Commissioner and Home Secretary late Safiur Rahman.

"We confirmed the voice of the narrator through voice recognition software," the Daily Star news quoted Counter Terrorism Unit Chief Monirul Islam as saying.

On July 1, gunmen belonging to the IS, killed 20 hostages -- mostly foreigners -- in a restaurant in Dhaka`s diplomatic zone. Two police officers were also killed during the 12-hour-long siege.
