He landed in a net in Simi Valley, California after leaping from a plane at 25,000 feet (7,600 meters).

The net, the production crew members had set up, was about one-third the size of a football field and 20 stories high.

Aikins, a trained elite skydiver, fell for about two minutes and then flipped onto his back at the last second, landing perfectly in the 100-by-100-foot net at about 120 mph, as per media reports.

"Pay attention to the science and the math behind this. And we`ll show you what`s possible," he had said just before taking off, as per AFP.

His wife and other family members were at the spot to watch him.

He spent a year and a half preparing the death-defying feat.

Back on the ground, he said, "I`m almost levitating, it`s incredible. The thing that just happened. The words I want to say I can`t even get out of my mouth. All of these guys, everything that made it happen... It`s awesome."

Aikins, 42, has made 18,000 jumps and done stunts for 'Ironman 3' and other movies and runs a skydiving school in Washington state.

Also an airplane and helicopter pilot, Aikins made his first tandem jump when he was 12, following with his first solo leap four years later.
