Year ender: Five worst natural calamities that shook the world in 2015

The year 2015 witnessed a number of natural disasters around the world; floods in Tamil Nadu, earthquake in Nepal to name a few. 

Here are some of the major natural calamities that shook the world in 2015.

Tamil Nadu floods

Record-shattering torrential rains in Chennai brought the city to its knees. The incessant rains resulting in floods claimed over 325 lives. The  widespread flooding shut down the airport, several trains and factories of top automobile companies. Lakhs of people in the worst-hit areas faced acute short supply of essentials including water, power, milk and food items.

Nepal earthquake

The Nepal earthquake, one of the worst disasters of the year, killed nearly 9,000 people and injured more than 23,000. 

The 7.8-magnitude quake jolted Nepal on 25 April. Its epicenter was Lamjung. It was the worst natural disaster to shook Nepal since the 1934 Nepal-Bihar earthquake.

Air pollution in Delhi 

Alarming level of air pollution in the national capital has emerged as the key environmental issue in Delhi. Even, Delhi High Court took note of air quality monitoring data  and observed that It seems like we are living in a gas chamber.

Also, vowing stringent measures to curb rising air pollution, Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has come up with a controversial odd-even vehicle number formula.

Assam floods

Trigerred by heavy rainfall in Auguest 2015, the floods claimed at least 42 people and affected over 1.65 million people in 21 districts of the state.
