Bhubaneswa:  The south-west monsoon arrived in Odisha today triggering moderate to heavy rainfall in several parts of the state. "The south-west monsoon entered Odisha today and set in some parts of coastal districts of the state," said Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

The monsoon has so far covered some parts of the districts like Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore after making steady advance, he said.


Other parts of the state are likely to be covered by the monsoon as it gradually advances further, an IMD officials said heavy rains were expected to lash the state, which had already been experiencing rainfall for the last few days.


The MeT office forecast occurrence of heavy rainfall in one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul and Jajpur districts during the next 24 hours.


Arrival of monsoon coupled with the impact of a deep depression which crossed Bangladesh coast, is likely to trigger rain and thundershower in many places in northern part of the state and at a few places in southern part in the next 24 hours.
