New Delhi: Unless the government announces the extension of deadline for usages of demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, November 24 (Thursday) is the last day to use them at public utilities.
Following the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on November 8, the government had permitted the use of old notes at public utilities such as government hospitals, petrol pumps, railway ticketing for the next 72 hours.
However, this was further extended by another 72 hours with the government adding to the list such as metrol rail tickets, highway toll, pharmacies, etc, where the old notes could be used.
Meanwhile, the public had stood in queues outside banks and ATMs either to exchange notes, deposit or withdraw cash.
And as these lines outside banks and ATMs grew longer by the day, the government finally extended the usage of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes at public utilities from November 14 till November 24, much to the relief of the common man.
However, at the time of filing of this story on November 23 night, there was no official announcement from the government yet about the extension of date for usage of old notes at public utilities. This means that November 24, as fixed earlier, will be the last day to use the old notes.
These are the places were the old notes can be used for the last time as of November 24:
- Government hospitals
- Booking railway and metro tickets
- Booking airline tickets at airports
- Petrol pumps
- Consumer Co-Op stores
- LPG Gas cylinders
- Pharmacies with doctor prescription
- Power and water bills
- Milk booths
- Crematoria/burial grounds
- Entry tickets for ASI monument
However, consumers can still exchange the old notes at banks till December 30.
