Baba Siddique Shot Dead

Baba Siddique, a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, was shot dead in Bandra East on Saturday evening in Mumbai, . He was seriously injured during the attack and later succumbed to his injuries at Lilavati Hospital. Police have arrested the shooters and are continuing their investigation.

Baba Siddique, aged 66-year-old had a notable political presence and was well-regarded in Bollywood, often referred to as a "friend of friends." His annual iftar party attracted many prominent stars from the film industry, Salman khan, Shahrukh Khan and Sanjay Dutt were some of the prominent connections. Siddique is often regarded as the mediator who helped patch things up between Salman and Shahrukh khan.

According to his 2014 election affidavit, Baba Siddique declared assets worth ₹76 crore. His reported net worth increased significantly over the years, with assets valued at ₹25 crore in 2009 and ₹12 crore in 2004. The affidavit also noted a debt of ₹23.59 crore.

Baba Siddique was known for his passion for luxury cars. In 2014, he owned a Mercedes Benz A 180 Sport valued at ₹31 lakh, while his wife had a Mercedes Benz S Class 350 L worth ₹86.54 lakh. Media reports suggest he also owned a BMW 7 Series and a Rolls Royce Phantom.

Early Life and Education

Born in Bihar, Baba Siddique moved to Mumbai during his childhood, where he completed his schooling at St. Anne's High School and pursued a B.Com degree at MMK College but did not finish his studies. He claimed to have completed up to 12th grade in his election affidavit.

Baba Siddique and his wife had over ₹6 crore worth of jewelry in 2014. His assets included commercial properties in Bandra valued at ₹4 crore, along with additional properties worth ₹1 crore and ₹91 lakh. The couple owned residential properties in Bandra valued at ₹3 crore and ₹15 crore, as well as several other properties under his wife’s name in Bandra and Kalina, Santacruz East.

Political Career

Baba Siddique began as a student leader and served as a municipal corporator twice. He first contested the assembly elections in 1999 from the Bandra seat and won. He continued his success by winning again in 2004 and 2009, but was defeated by BJP's Ashish Shelar in the 2014 assembly elections.
