Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who joined Ajit Pawar's faction of NCP, died after being shot at by unidentified persons. The firing took place outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office near Colgate ground in Nirmal Nagar in the Bandra area of Mumbai. As soon as the news broke, a reaction started coming from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to Salman Khan. Baba Siddique was not only a politician but also famous for his grand iftar parties, which were often attended by numerous Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. He was born in Majha, Gopalganj, Bihar, Baba Siddique first came to Mumbai in 1964, living with his father, who repaired watches. Baba Siddique came to Mumbai when he was very young, living in a small room with his father and residing in a small room in Bandra.

He started as a municipal corporator and then moved on to become an MLA. Baba began his political journey with the Congress party, joining the NSUI in 1977. By 1980, he became the General Secretary of the Bandra Youth Congress and in 1982, he was elected as its President. In 1988, he took on the role of President of the Mumbai Youth Congress.

Reportedly, Congress leader Sunil Dutt played a pivotal role in securing Baba Siddique's first electoral ticket. It was at Sunil Dutt's recommendation that Vilasrao Deshmukh awarded Baba the ticket.
