Public gathering ahead of festivals banned as COVID-19 cases surge across India
Amid a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases many state governments have ordered a ban on gatherings on festivals like Holi, Navratri and Shab-e-Barat. Apart from festivals, the ban also covers all kinds of gatherings as well. The state governments are ramping up coronavirus testing, especially for people coming from outside the state. Meanwhile, India reported 47,262 new cases of the novel coronavirus, which is the highest reported single-day rise for the year 2021.
