Kota: The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau today arrested an official of the sales tax office here for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 11,000 from a trader, an official said.

Personal assistant (PA) to deputy commissioner, sales tax department (appeals), Jitendra Parchwani (43) was arrested on graft charges by the bureau's team, Inspector ACB, Kota, Vivak Soni, said.


The PA would be produced before the ACB court, he said


He had demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a Bundi-based trading firm to exempt Rs 3.5 lakh from the gross penalty and an interest amount of Rs 5 lakh on fines, he said.


However, after negotiations, the bribe amount was decided at Rs 15,000, he said.


The proprietor of the firm Sumit Jain reported the matter to the ACB about two months ago. The bureau verified it and started investigations, the official said.


Parchwani had taken Rs 4,000 from the complainant on October 31, he said.
