Sale of meat, eggs restricted in Haryana on Mahavir Jayanti, all slaughterhouses shut
The decision is being taken considering that Mahavir Jayanti is observed as `non-violence day` every year.
Egg and meat lovers in Haryana may have a tough time finding the same in the state on Thursday as the sale of meat and eggs will be restricted on account on Mahavir Jayanti celebrations. Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain has also directed all slaughterhouses in the state to be closed on Thursday.
Jain in a statement said that Mahavir Jayanti was observed as "non-violence day" every year. She said that different religious organisations had met her demanding the prohibition of the killing of animals on the day. The officers of the department were then instructed to prepare a proposal in this regard. "Keeping in view the religious sentiments of the Jain community, the proposal to close down slaughter houses on March 29 and also restrict the sale of meat, fish and eggs has been approved," she said in the statement.
Authorities have been asked to strictly comply with the orders. They have also been asked to submit a report in connection with the same.
A similar order was given in 2017 as well when the Haryana government had observed Mahavir Jayanti as 'Ahinsha Divas'. A complete ban on the sale of meat, eggs, fish and liquor was ordered then.
