The earthquake struck at 8:49 PM at a depth of 10 km from the surface and the epicentre was 25 km east-southeast (ESE) of Gangtok, the National Center for Seismology said.


Apart from Sikkim, tremors were felt in Assam, north Bengal and Bihar, as per reports


Tremors were felt in eastern parts of Nepal, Bhutan and northern Bangladesh. 


A large number of people in eastern districts in Nepal had rushed out of their houses as strong tremors triggered panic, Nepal's 'My Republica' newspaper said.


Similarly, people in Panchagarh in northern Bangladesh panicked and rushed out of their houses, the Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported.
