Macau: Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu progressed through to the second round of the Macau Open Grand Prix, while H S Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth advanced to the third round in men's singles event on Wednesday.

Fifth seed Sindhu, who is a two-time bronze medallist at World Championship, battled past Kim Hyo Min of Korea 21-13, 22-20 in a 41-minute contest.


In men's singles, seventh seed Prannoy defeated Chinese Taipei's Lin Chia Hsuan 21-19 21-15, while Praneeth overcame Uzbekistan's Artyom Savatyugin 21-11 21-8 in another match to reach the third round.


Meanwhile, it turned out be a disappointing day for Ajay Jayaram and women's doubles duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa.


Jayaram suffered a 11-21 17-21 defeat against Lin Guipu of China in the second round, while 2010 Commonwealth Games champion Gutta and Ponnappa crashed out of the opening round as they suffered a 16-21, 15-21 defeat to Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota.
