Jerusalem: Newly-elected Israeli opposition leader Shaul Mofaz says he will shrink Israel`s economic inequality.
"I will represent the sane, democratic and liberal public," he was quoted on Thursday by Haaretz daily as saying. "Kadima will restore dignity to the working class." Mofaz trounced incumbent Tzipi Livni as chairman of Kadima, the largest party in Israel`s Parliament, in a Tuesday vote.
Mofaz, a military man, has recently added social issues to his platform. This may help him attract the right-leaning, working-class voting base of Likud, the party of incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He has also called for ending draft exemptions for ultra-Orthodox Jews.
