New Delhi: Former Indian seamer Venkatesh Prasad was in for a pleasant surprise when his name was linked to the role of Bangladesh bowling coach.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) informed a news agency on Tuesday that it is mulling Prasad among four others to replace Heath Streak as bowling coach.
Along with Prasad, the other three candidates in the fray are Sri Lanka's Champaka Ramanayake, Chaminda Vaas and Pakistan's Aaqib Javed.
While talking to Times of India, Prasad stated: "This news comes to me as a pleasant surprise. I've not applied for the Bangladesh job as I always been expressing my desire to coach Team India bowlers. BCB may have expressed interest looking at my credentials as a coach," said Prasad, who currently heads the India U-19 selection committee.
As a coach, Prasad, 46, has a decent CV. He had coached Indian team bowlers from 2007 to 2009 and guided the U-19 side to the final of the 2006 World Cup.
Apart from that, he had also coached Uttar Pradesh Ranji side and IPL teams -- Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.
