Conflict of interest heat now on domestic cricketers, selectors: Report
BCCI intends to prohibit private coaching by those contracted to state-run Ranji Trophy and under-age teams.
New Delhi: Conflict of interest issue that rocked Indian cricket in 2015 could now engulf even India's domestic cricketers, support staff and selectors at the First-Class level.
According to a report on the Times of India, BCCI bosses intend to prohibit private coaching by those contracted to state-run Ranji Trophy and under-age teams.
A new rule formed by the board states that 'cricketers appointed as coaches of Indian teams or national selectors shall not be associated with any private coaching academy during their tenure'.
BCCI expects its state affiliated associations to implement this rule effectively.
According to the Indian board, the conflict of interest arises from the fact coaches and former players, who work with their states teams, are in a position to recommend boys from their academies during selection meetings.
“The board is doing whatever it takes to remove `conflict of interest' but the state associations will have to share the burden," a senior BCCI official told TOI.
BCCI is keeping an eye on those dual jobs performed by selectors and cricketers. In some cases, those working with IPL teams are also working as state selectors and coaches. Such people are likely to face the board's brunt.
"You can't be earning from three places. Others should also get a chance," said a BCCI official.
