New Delhi: Days after Cricket South Africa (CSA) left out Dale Steyn out of their squad for upcoming triangular series in West Indies, also involving Australia, Glamorgan on Friday confirmed the signing the speedster for a seven-match NatWest T20 Blast stint.

The 32-year-old will be available for Glamorgan's first seven matches, with Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait replacing him for the second half of the competition.

Steyn's captain at Glamorgan will be his former South Africa colleague Jacques Rudolph.

"The timing of this opportunity is ideal and there is no better way to prepare than playing in the IPL," said Steyn in a Glamorgan statement.

Steyn is currently a part of the Gujarat Lions squad in the ongoing Indian Premier League (2016). Despite being one of the most feared bowlers in world cricket, Steyn has played just one match for the Suresh Raina-led side this season.

Earlier, speaking on the exclusion of Steyn from the South African squad, CSA selection committee convener Linda Zondi said that he was vital to South Africa's plans for the longest format of the game and still had a chance of making it to the ODI squad for home series vs Australia later this year.

“In the short term our immediate focus must be to get back among the top ranked Test nations and for this reason we are resting Dale Steyn for this tour. He is vital to our ambitions in the longest format and he is going to have a heavy workload in the months ahead with home and away series against New Zealand, a home series against Sri Lanka and an away Test series in Australia which is where we need to perform,” explained Zondi.

“He is certainly not out of the ODI picture and could well feature in the home series against Australia later this year,” he added.
