Dhaka terror attack: After Pakistan, international teams could now stop touring Bangladesh
The Bangladeshi side has shown a marked improvement in all forms of cricket.
New Delhi: The recent terror attack in Dhaka could lead to a major problem for the Bangladesh cricket administration.
Like Pakistan, international teams may cite security reasons to avoid playing in the Asian country.
"After what happened in Dhaka I fear that like Pakistan the Bangladesh board will also find it difficult to convince teams to tour their country. I am concerned that Bangladesh cricket might also be hit hard by terrorism like Pakistan cricket has suffered in the last few years," former ICC chief Ehsan Mani told NDTV.
Since the terrible events of 2009, Pakistan have been playing their home games in the UAE. Barring Zimbabwe, no team has toured the country since the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked seven years back.
England are scheduled to play in Bangladesh in October and the ECB's position will make it clear whether other teams would be willing to tour the country in the future.
"At a time when foreigners were killed in the attack, it will be difficult for Bangladesh to convince England to play the series. Don't forget West Indies under-19 team returned home from Bangladesh due to security concerns some years back while Australia also pulled out of the ICC Youth World Cup this year,'' Mani further added.
The Bangladeshi side has shown a marked improvement in all forms of cricket.
There is now a serious risk of the unfortunate Dhaka events derailing further progress of the national team.
