Hamilton Masakadza: Zimbabwean blasts second-highest T20 score, falls 13 short of Chris Gayle`s world record
Interestingly, Masakadza could not face a single ball of the 20th over that was bowled by Muzarawetu.
New Delhi: Zimbabwe batsman Hamilton Masakadza on Thursday smashed an unbeaten 162 in the Domestic Twenty20 Competition to register the second highest score in T20 cricket.
The Mountaineers batsman's knock came against Mashonaland Eagles in what was his 104th career T20 match.
According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, Masakadza got the innings off with a bang, scoring 16 runs off Tafadzwa Muzarawetu's first over.
The 32-year-old's fifty came off just 24 balls. He scored the next 112 runs in 47 deliveries.
His 71-ball stay at the crease included 14 fours and 11 sixes at a strike-rate of 228.16.
Masakadza 162* was only 13 runs short of Chris Gayle's 175*, which is the highest individual score in T20 cricket.
Interestingly, Masakadza could not face a single ball of the 20th over that was bowled by Muzarawetu.
Had he been able to play a few balls, the West Indian's record might well have been bettered.
Powered by Masakadza, the Mountaineers posted 242 for 3 and ended up with a 125-run D/L win.
