New Delhi: India's batting star Virat Kohli on Friday reacted strongly to condemn the assault on police horse ‘Shaktiman’ during a recent protest march in Deharadun.

The Indian Test captain took to micro-blogging Twitter and shared his anguish.



Shaktiman is a well trained horse and part of Uttarakhand Mounted Police for years. After the attack, the horse had to have one of its hind legs amputated as a result.


The 27-year-old also urged the concern authorities to take appropriate action against Ganesh Joshi, who assaulted the animal.

Police today arrested the BJP MLA on the charge of assaulting ‘Shaktiman’.


IG Garhwal range Sanjay Gunjyal has reportedly said the MLA from Mussoorie was arrested from outside a hotel in Patel Nagar area on the basis of an FIR lodged against him and his associates at the Nehru Colony police station here in connection with the assault on the horse on March 14.


Meanwhile, the injured horse whose fractured hind leg had to be amputated late last night by a team of doctors at the police lines can now stand with the help of an artificial leg.


However, doctors attending on Shaktiman said it will have to be seen whether the prop is strong enough to support the horse which weighs four quintals.
