New Delhi: Overnight rains brought chill to the capital on Saturday morning but the minimum temperature remained at above normal levels.
The rain gauges in the city measured a total of 7.9 mm for the past 24 hours ending 8:30 AM today. The city received showers measuring 7.2 mm between 5:30 PM yesterday and 8:30 AM today.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 12.5 degree Celsius, five degrees above normal and up by 0.1 degrees from yesterday. The city experienced the coldest day temperature yesterday with maximum temperature recorded at a low of 16.9 degree Celsius.
Last month saw the minimum temperature come down to 2.9 deg C on Christmas morning, the lowest for the season so far.
In the past 11 years except for 2010, the month of January has recorded the lowest minimum temperature at below five degree Celsius. The lowest in the past 11 years was on January eight of 2006 when the mercury read dipped 0.2 degree Celsius. The record lowest minimum for the month was recorded on January 16, 1935 when mercury touched minus 0.6 degree Celsius while the record highest maximum was 32.5 degrees on January 28, 2004.
