New Delhi: BJP veteran LK Advani’s much-publicised Jan Chetna yatra against corruption will be a national affair as it aims to cover 7600 kilometers across 23 states and Union Territories, the party announced on Wednesday.
Making an announcement in this regard, BJP general secretary H Ananth Kumar said, “The yatra, which begins on October 11, will promote good governance and clean politics."
"It will be flagged off by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, " he confirmed.
BJP president Nitin Gadkari had earlier announced that Advani’s Jan Chetna yatra will start from Sitabdiyara- the birthplace of nationalist leader Jai Prakash Narayan – in Bihar. “The main objective of the yatra is to build a consensus among the common public against rising corruption, promoting good governance, clean politics and transforming India into a powerful state in the near future,” Gadkari said.
The BJP chief, while announcing the modalities of the yatra, said, “It will encompass 23 states and touch Union Territories. During the yatra, nationwide seminars, street shows, awareness campaigns on most pressing issues etc will be launched to create awareness among the public and to ensure the success of this initiative.” Gadkari further said, “The entire cadre base of the party, several NGOs, other political outfits and all senior BJP leaders will extend support and cooperation to Advani ji during the entire course of the yatra.”
He said that the 38-day long Jan Chetana yatra will conclude in Delhi on Nov 20 in form of a massive rally.
The BJP leadership is hoping that Advani’s yatra should focus on corruption so as to take advantage of the popular mood against the graft-hit UPA government.
