On Harbhajan Singh`s `tailor-made pitches` tweet: Here`s what Ravichandran Ashwin has to say
While Harbhajan Singh`s remark, where he took a dig an Indian pitches, was criticised by fans, R Ashwin took to Twitter on Monday to react to the controversy.
New Delhi: Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's performance was India's hero yet again as India thrashed New Zealand 3-0 in the recently concluded Test match series.
While Ashwin, along with Ravindra Jadeja, bamboozled the Kiwis with quality spin bowling, a controversy erupted after veteran offie Harbhajan Singh took a jibe at the Indian pitches.
Bhajji, who has been struggling to make it to the Indian squad with Ashwin, Jadeja doing so well, recently triggered a controversy when he used the hash tag 'tailor-made conditions for spinners' while referring to pitch used in Indore for the third and final Test.
When one of his fans reminded him of two tracks where he got massive purchase from the wicket, Bhajji replied, "Only 2 in my 103 tests.. Kumble and my test wicket count would have been something else if we got wickets like last 4 years we playing on."
Harbhajan was trolled for taking a dig at the Indian pitches where Ashwin and Jadeja had been performing so well.
While Bhajji's remarks were criticised by fans, Ashwin took to Twitter on Monday to react to the controversy.
In a brilliant tweet, Ashwin said, "@harbhajan_singh has been an inspiration nd I started bowling off spin only after seeing the 2001 series. This banter going on is unhealthy."
Harbhajan was quick to acknowledge the tweet and said that his remark was misunderstood. Replying to Ashwin's tweet, India's most successful off-spinner said, "Dear got nothing against you. For some reasons my words are misconstrued. Wish you nothing but the best Keep the flag high! God bless."
Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli was told about Harbhajan's statement after India finished the third Test in four days with a comprehensive 321-run win. The Delhi batsman said that irrespective of what people comment about the nature of Indian pitches, the team is committed to do well on any surface.
"We knew before the series that people will start talking about pitches. We knew pitches will not be dry as monsoon is everywhere and especially in Kolkata, which is a newly-laid wicket. We knew our abilities and we knew we should be good enough to do well on any surface and against any team," added the 27-year-old.
Virat further asserted, "We believe in our skill and not believe in creating conditions or atmosphere which might suit us partially. We wanted to express ourselves. We finished two games in four days and that gives us a lot of confidence."
