New Delhi: Coming out in the open for the first time on the issue of presidential elections, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said on Thursday that no name had yet been decided upon by the party.
The UPA chairperson also asked the media to have `patience`. Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee met Sonia Gandhi today. Nonetheless, the Trinamool Congress supremo refused to comment on the contentious issue and divulge any details of her meeting with Sonia Gandhi. “It was a courtesy call. I have come to enquire about her (Gandhi`s) health,” she told reporters.
Senior Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi while talking to a TV channel said, “We have not come to any conclusion. We are not denying Pranab Mukherjee’s name but at the same time it is too early to name anyone. We are trying to create consensus.” The name of Vice-President Hamid Ansari is also doing the rounds for the presidential candidate.
