Bangalore: Congress today accused the BJP government in Karnataka of neglecting drought relief works and urged for immediate release of Rs 1000 crore funds to provide succour to the affected people.
"The BJP Government which is immersed in internal feud has negelected drought relief works in 123 taluks spread across 21 districts. People are facing untold misery due to drinking water shortage and fodder scarcity", KPCC President G Parameshwara charged at a press conference here. The state government has released Rs 101 croere as on February 18 including Rs 36 crore for drinking water, he said and demanded that at least Rs 1,000 crore be released immediately to tackle the scarcit conditions.
Due to political instability faced by the state in the wake of internal bickerings, the people have been made to suffer, he alleged.
Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda should deploy his ministers to drought battered areas to monitor relief works, he demanded. Parameshwara said the Congress will soon announce its candidate for the March 18 bypoll to Chikmagalur-Udupi Lok Sabha seat and exuded optimism of winning the election.
