The mainstay of Indian batting line up, in all three formats, Kohli has been going through a purple patch with the willow.

The cricket board also nominated Mumbai cricketer Ajinkya Rahane's name for the Arjuna Award.

Kohli is currently participating in Indian Premier League (IPL), where he is leading Bangalore franchise - Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

His consistency with the willow and match-winning ability force pundits, time and again, to compare him with the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who retired in 2013 after breaking many batting records.

Kohli, 27, recently slammed his maiden T20 century against Gujarat Lions in the ongoing season.
