Hopes of Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai, of making it to the top four, shattered when they lost their last league game against Gujarat Lions on Saturday.

Mumbai managed to win mere seven out of their 14 games, which was not good enough for them to make their way into the playoffs. One more win would have made it for the defending champions as they are placed 5th in the points table.

After MI's poor show this season, Rohit showed a brave face and vowed that his team will make a strong comeback in the next edition of the cash-rich league.

Under Rohit, Mumbai have already won two IPL titles in 2013 and 2015.

Rohit also thanked fans for all the support and said that each and every single person had tried their best and gave everything they had, but unfortunately ended up on the losing side.
