Four NATO soldiers die in southern Afghanistan
The Taliban insurgent group announced on May 02 that they would launch a spring rebel offensive from May 03 across Afghanistan.
Kabul: Four NATO soldiers lost their lives during separate incidents in restive southern Afghanistan, the military alliance said.
"Two International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service members died following an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan today," the NATO-led ISAF said in a press release issued here on Saturday evening, reported Xinhua. Another soldier with the alliance was killed in an IED attack earlier in the day and the fourth victim lost his life as a result of the non-battle related injury on Saturday morning also in southern Afghanistan, according to the ISAF press releases.
Under ISAF policy, the brief releases did not mention the nationalities of the victims.
Troops mainly from the US, Britain and Australia have been stationed in the southern region within the framework of ISAF to curb Taliban-linked insurgency there. The Taliban insurgent group, who has been waging a decade-long insurgency, announced on May 02 that they would launch a spring rebel offensive from May 03 across the country, saying their targets are US, NATO and Afghan troops as well as legislators and government functionaries.
Over 150 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.
