London: Facebook has now added the Spotify music streaming service to its roster that would allow users to access different music albums. When users connect Spotify to their Facebook account, their activity will be visible to their friends.

If enough people listen to the same album or playlist, then it will appear as a playable item in the Facebook newsfeed.

A forthcoming feature will allow users to listen to the same song at the same time, the Telegraph reports. Gustav Soderstrom, Spotify`s chief product officer, said ‘music is the next natural step for Facebook after photos’.

“I think it`s going to mean that things spread even faster than before. An artist that gets picked up is going to spread faster within a market and also between markets,” Soderstrom said.

“I think people are going to listen to more music,” he added.

Music industry analyst Mark Mulligan, however, warned that Spotify and the other music partners would need to be careful.

“As they become more and more integrated in Facebook (especially when the universal player comes) their brands will increasingly fade, subsumed into Facebook,” Mulligan posted on his blog.
