New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the city government and others including the Public Works Department (PWD) to respond to a plea for construction of a foot-over-bridge near Jangpura Metro station.

"Issue notice to the respondents (Delhi Government, PWD, Transport department and DMRC) for March 28," a bench of Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said.
The court`s notice was issued on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Jangpura Residents Welfare Associaton (JRWA) through lawyer R K Saini.
The PIL sought a direction to the government and others to construct an over-bridge for pedestrians to cross Lala Lajpath Rai Marg near Jangpura Metro station as residents of nearby colonies face the risk of being run over by speeding vehicles on the busy road. Seeking immediate building of the bridge over "Lala Lajpath Rai Marg, a very busy and wide road having high-speed traffic throughout the day," the plea by the JRWA termed the failure by authorities in building it, despite repeated promises for over last six months as "negligent, callous and abdication of public duty / responsibility". It said the government agencies, which were being approacghed by JRWA, did not do anything despite assuring the association on February 2, 2007 that the estimates for the bridge have already been prepared for administrative approval.
