According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, the 34-year-old will instead rest his body and spend time with family.

It was believed that the pacer, post retirement, was going to play in the BBL for the very first time for his home club and defending champions Perth Scorchers.

But as things stand now, Perth are unlikely to have the services of one their most respected cricketers in recent times.

"[It] is a real shame because I think everyone in Australia was hoping he'd play," the report quoted Scorchers coach Justin Langer talking to radio station 6PR on Thursday.

"And I really respect where he's at. He retired for a reason and he won't be playing," Langer added.

Besides Johnson, Perth are set to miss the services Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh and Nathan Coulter-Nile who are part of Australia's Test squad to play West Indies.

Johnson retired from international cricket on November 17. After making his One-Day International debut in December 2015 against New Zealand, Johnson went onto play 72 ODI matches, taking 239 wickets at an average of 25.26, including three five-wicket hauls.

He made his Test debut in November 2007, against Sri Lanka. In 72 matches, he took 310 wickets at an average of 28.10. He had three ten-wicket hauls in his career.
