Puducherry: Puducherry Assembly adjourned sine die on Monday after Chief Minister N Rangasamy presented replies to debate on the motion of thanks to Lt Governor`s address.
The session was held for three days since March 28.
Winding up the debate on motion of thanks to Lt Governor`s address Rangasamy said that the government would take steps to hand over to the CBI the probe into the incidents of violence that rocked the Yanam region, an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh, as there had been demand for the CBI probe by various sections of political parties and also legislators. Rangasamy said that he was awaiting a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police who had gone into the incidents and outbreak of violence in Yanam on January 27.
A trade union leader died allegedly in police action on January 27 during labour unrest and an official of the Regency Ceramics factory was also lynched the same day by violent mob.
Rangasamy said the funds for the MLA Local Area Development scheme would be raised from present Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.25 crore. He said that subsidy for conversion of huts into concrete houses had also been raised for the Scheduled families from present Rs 2 lakhs to Rs 4 lakhs and for other sections the subsidy would be raised to Rs 2 lakhs. The monthly assistance for the aged was now covering around 3883 persons with each of them getting Rs 1000 a month.
