New Delhi: Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India once again retained their top spot in the International Cricket Council's T20I rankings on Monday.
A series win against neighbors Sri Lanka helped India to remain at the top with 122 points.
On Sunday, Men in Blue beat Lanka in the 3rd and final T20I, played in Visakhapatnam, to seal the series 2-1.
The series win against Lanka helped India reach 122 points, four more than second-ranked West Indies, while, with 117 points, England are placed third.
On the other hand, after losing series against MS Dhoni & Co, Sri Lanka have left behind England and New Zealand to fifth position, while South Africa (sixth), Pakistan (seventh) and Australia (eighth) complete the top half of the 16-team table.
South Africa and England, who have to play two T20Is on 19 and 21 February against each other, have a chance to reach the 2nd spot by winning both the matches.
The top sides from Asia will then go head to head in the Asia Cup T20 tournament, which will be held in Bangladesh from 24 February to 6 March. This will be the final series before the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 begins in Nagpur on 8 March.
