The BCCI boss, 75, had suffered heart attack on Thursday and was under observation after undergoing a heart surgery. He is survived by his wife, his son Abhishek and a daughter.
Anurag Thakur, the BCCI secretary, was one of the first to condole the loss.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spared thoughts for Dalmiya's family.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee also paid his respect.
Indian batting maestro, Sachin Tendulkar, said he "Will always cherish his encouragement & support over the years."
Former India batsman, VVS Laxman hailed him as "a visionary".
